Deep beneath the Whispering Hills, a hidden entrance shimmered like a rainbow in the dark.
"I have never seen a door made of pure light before!"
Zoe stepped forward, her boots crunching softly on the glittery sand.
Yip! "Wait for me, my nose is tingling with a very strange scent!"
They entered the Crystal Cave, where giant gems grew from the floor like jagged flowers.
"Welcome, travelers, though you find us in a state of great mystery."
"Hello!
Are you the keeper of these beautiful stones?"
"I am Master Gloam, and I fear the cave is losing its beautiful glow."
He pointed to a massive central pillar that looked dull and grey.
Sniff, sniff. "It smells like cold stone instead of warm sunshine!"
"Don't worry, Master Gloam, we are very good at solving puzzles."
The friends walked toward the Great Heart Crystal to investigate the problem.
"Look at these empty slots at the base of the pillar!"
"The three Keys of Resonance have vanished from their spots."
"I see something shiny way up on that high ledge!"
A small red stone was wedged in a crack far above their heads.
"I can't climb that high, the walls are too slippery."
"But I can!
Watch me leap from crystal to crystal!"
The blue fox blurred into motion, zigzagging up the cave wall with ease.
"Got it!
Here comes the first key!"
The red stone tumbled down and landed softly in Zoe's hands.
"The second key is hidden behind the Waterfall of Whispers."
"The water is moving too fast for me to see behind it."
"I know the secret song that makes the water slow down."
The old gnome began to hum a low, vibrating melody.
The rushing water turned into a gentle mist, revealing a green gem.
"I've got the second one!
Now we just need the last key."
"The third key is the trickiest, for it only appears when we solve the riddle."
Letters began to glow on the floor: I am not seen, but I am heard; I have no mouth, but I speak every word.
"Is it a bird?
No, birds have mouths."
"Wait!
An echo!
It repeats what we say!"
As Zoe shouted the answer, a yellow stone materialized in the air.
"Excellent!
Now we must place them back together at the exact same moment."
"Flicker, you take the red stone; Master Gloam, you take the green."
"I will hold the yellow one, and we will push on the count of three."
They stood around the pillar, their hands ready and their hearts beating fast.
"One...
two...
three!"
A sudden burst of luminous color exploded from the pillar, filling the cave.
Wooo-hoo! "Look at all the sparkles dancing on the ceiling!"
"The resonance is restored because we acted as one."
"We couldn't have done it alone; we all had a special part to play."
The cave was no longer cold and grey, but a warm sanctuary of light.
"Please, stay for some crystal-berry tea to celebrate our victory."
"As long as there are snacks, I am the happiest fox in the world!"
And so, the three friends sat together, surrounded by the glow they had saved.
